  • 24.05.2024 - Daytrip to Marienborn Memorial

    We will go on an excursion together to the Marienborn Memorial. The Marienborn German Division Memorial commemorates the inner-German border until 1989. The former GDR border crossing has been a listed monument since 1990. We will take a guided tour there, visit many of the buildings and facilities in their original condition and learn about German history at the time of the division.

    This programme item is part of the event programme for students & is open to doctoral candidates, postdocs and researchers.

    Fee: 5 Euro

  • 25.05.2024 - First Aid Course

    What do I have to do when somebody gets injured? How can I help? What should I know of? If you have asked yourself those questions or work in an environment where accidents can happen join this first-aid-course with us. The course will be at the institution Johanniter and in the end we will get a certificate.

    This programme item is part of the event programme for students & is open to doctoral candidates, postdocs and researchers.

    Fee: 10 Euros

  • 26.05.2024 - Herrenhausen gardens

    Today we would like to visit one of the most beautiful parks in Europe with you: the Herrenhausen Gardens, which were designed in the 17th century for Electress Sophie and today serve as a backdrop for popular events (fireworks competition, small festival in the Great Garden, etc.). In addition to the garden, we would also like to visit the associated museum and the Niki de Saint Phalle Grotto, which was designed by the artist herself.

  • 02.06.2024 - Escape Room

    At this event, you have to solve puzzles together as a team. The particularly difficult part? The clock is ticking! This requires team spirit and creativity to get out of the room at the end.

    Please note: This type of event can involve stressful situations that are visually supported.

  • 08.06.2024 - Night of Museums

    An evening and a night dedicated to the many museums in Hanover. Stroll with us through the various exhibition venues and embark on a journey through culture, architecture and history. The museums are open until 11:30 pm on this special day.

  • 30.06.2024 - "Schützenfest" with March

    The Schützenfest in Hanover is considered the largest of its kind and its history dates back to the 15th century. In addition to the many exciting rides and delicious gastronomic offerings, you have the opportunity to get to know the tradition of the "Schützenausmarsch". This is a long marching band with live music.

  • 06.07.2024 - Daytrip to Bremerhaven

    With our regular day trips, we want to give you the opportunity to get to know cities together in a group that can be reached within a day from Hanover.

    This excursion will take us to Bremerhaven, a city in the north of Lower Saxony, which is an exclave of the Hanseatic city of Bremen. We will take a harbour tour on foot, during which we will get to know the second largest harbour in Germany. We will then visit the “Klimahaus”, an impressive, interactive exhibition right on the harbour. This excursion will start very early and lasts the whole day.

Workshops

  • 23.06.2024 - Research in international Teams – Improve your Intercultural Competences

    This workshop is all about intercultural communication and the key to successful research work with colleagues from all over the world. It is a great opportunity for international PhDs to learn more about the German way of communication and doing research but it is also important for German doctoral candidates who, although doing research in Germany, will have to work with people from all over the world. The workshop is nothing like a “boring” presentation but rather a pleasant sharing of experiences and searching for strategies on how to work best in an international environment.

    The workshop is led by a intercultural trainer who has spent a lot of time abroad herself and has been running workshops at the International Office for many years. Participants in her workshop can not only improve their intercultural skills, but also learn a lot about themselves.

  • 08.11.2024 - Introduction to German academic culture

    It can be a great challenge to spend a lot of time in a large educational institution in a foreign country. There are new academic requirements, unwritten rules and it is not uncommon to be overwhelmed. In this short workshop, you will get to know some German peculiarities better and can link them to your own experiences as researchers at LUH. Through visualization, interactive methods and discussions, you will have the opportunity to better understand your environment and make your future in Germany easier. This workshop is suitable for newcomers as well as for PhD students & PostDocs who have been in Germany for some time and want to broaden their understanding of Germany as an academic landscape.

    The workshop will be led by a intercultural trainer who herself has had a lot of experience at educational institutions in other countries.
