Information for international Erasmus+ students (Incomings) from Programme and Partner Countries
The following information address applicants from Erasmus+ programme countries only. Further information for applicants from Erasmus+ partner countries (which partly apply from outside of Europe) please follow this link.
Application and Admission
You can study in line with the Erasmus+ programme at Leibniz Universität Hannover, if your home institution has made a bilateral agreement with one of our departments. This bilateral agreement has to contain places for exchange in your field of study.
If you are looking for information on why to choose Hannover please follow this link. If you have already decided to join us in Hannover just continue reading and you will find all necessary information.
Please apply for a place in the Erasmus+ programme at your home university. Onces you have been selected, you can apply directly to Leibniz Universität Hannover, after your home university nominated you at our university. The nomination has to reach us by the 30th April for the winter semester and by the 15th November for every summer semester.
It is only possible to apply online for studying abroad as an exchange student at Leibniz Universität Hannover. With your online application you transfer all necessary personal details and information on the requested exchange place.
The form for submission of your personal and academic data is available in German and English. You can obtain both versions through the respective links below on this site. Please fill in the online form thoroughly since the data will be adopted as they have been submitted, i.e. typing mistakes in your postal address, for example, or mistyped phone numbers will appear on all documents which the International Office sends to you or to your home university, or e-mails will not reach you. Please attend to the exact use of small and capital letters. Pay attention to notifications of missing data which you might receive while filling in the form.
Step 1: Filling in the online application
First, you must fill out our Online Application. After completing the form, you will be directed to a preview page, where you can review the submitted information, correct them if necessary and eventually send them to us electronically. After having submitted your data a PDF-document with your application form will be created. Please print this document. If you do not have access to a printer at the moment, you can also save the document and print it later. Please keep in mind that a print out of the online application is needed for the application. It is not sufficient to just fill in the online application.
If you wish to change the data after the electronic transfer of your online application, you must repeat the entire application process. Based on date and time we will only take your last application into consideration.
2. Collecting all necessary documents
Please supplement the printout of the online application with a passport photo, sign it and have it signed and stamped by the Erasmus+ coordinator of your home university.
Your application CANNOT be considered if your own signature and/or the signature of your Erasmus+ coordinator are missing on the printout of the online application form!
Please note that we only accept applications in which sufficient language skills (intermediate German knowledge according to CEFR and/or in some fields of study English) can be attested by the home university. Keep in mind that most courses are held in German. Please inform yourself in advance in which language your courses of study (or research project) are offered.
Furthermore, you must attach a current Transcript of Records, showing the courses and/or modules you have studied so far at your home university.
Eventually, we need a Learning Agreement. Together, you and your faculty coordinator should choose courses from our course catalog or modules out of the module catalog (Modulkatalog) that you wish to study here. As you might not be able to find the course catalog for the semester you will be studying here, refer to the catalog of the previous semester/year. After arriving in Hannover and attending your first courses, you may update your Learning Agreement with the actual courses you are taking here.
More information on choosing your courses can be found here:Choosing your Courses
3. Sending your application via mail
Please make sure all documents reach us via mail or email no later than May 31st of each year for the following winter semester or December 15th for the summer semester.
After receiving your written documents, examining your application and accepting you at one of the departments of Leibniz Universität Hannover, we will send you an acceptance letter along with signed forms and additional information about accomodation, language courses, our Study Buddy Programme, arrival, enrolment and orientation days.
For your information we prepared a checklist stating all necessary steps in order to complete your application: Checklist application

ECTS at Leibniz Universität Hannover
At Leibniz Universität Hannover each department is individually in charge of awarding credits. Thus, it may be that an academic achievement in form of a seminar paper awards more credits in one study course than in another. The following overview is only to be understood as a first introduction to the departments and study courses. You will find detailed information on the department websites for which these are solely responsible, of course.
In order to obtain ECTS credits for your study achievements, your Learning Agreement and your ECTS application form must be signed and turned in. Please arrange the terms for further proceedings with your department coordinator. Please make sure that you receive a certificate (e.g. a “Schein”) for each of your study achievements. You will need these certificates for the issuing of a Transcript of Records at the end of your stay. An automatic issuing of the transcript does not occur via the Examination Office or the International Office.
Since the implementation of ECTS may vary from department to department, the ECTS-information package contains only general information for all (exchange) students of Leibniz Universität Hannover.
